Over 150 brave and generous volunteers took part in the grueling inaugural 700-mile, Hope for Hasti barefoot relay. The volunteers were inspired by the successful completion of the same 700-mile route by Pride of Britain winner, Chris Brannigan who completed the unthinkable challenge in 35 days between July and August. The baton for this relay was ‘Obama the Llama’, Hasti’s favourite teddy, which Chris also carried during his barefoot march. 

Participants from all over the country completed one of 122 legs of between 5 and 10 miles, either alone or as part of a team … but always barefoot. The relay started on September 26th 2020 in iconic Land’s End in the South West of England and finished at Edinburgh Castle in Scotland on December 1st 2020 . Those who took part walked through every possible weather, sunshine and blue skies in Cornwall and driving rain and frost in Scotland, with a few storms in between just for good measure. They also catalogued their journey in pictures and videos which they shared via social media as they walked, marched and ran across the country barefooted (gallery here).

All those who completed their leg received a barefoot relay medal for their efforts. The incredible people who took part raised an astonishing £55,000 for Hope for Hasti. Every penny of this will be channeled to vital research thanks to the event sponsors, Ocho Branding who supplied all of the participants with a Hope for Hasti t-shirt and Deputy Finance, who sponsored the event medals.
